The Building Engineering Services Association is the UK’s leading trade organisation for building engineering services contractors – representing the interests of firms active in the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, control and management of engineering systems and services in buildings.

I attended the Building Engineering Services President’s Lunch and Networking event in London yesterday as I am Chairman of BESA for the South West region. It was excellent to meet like minded engineers and other people interested in improving our construction industry. We talked of current issues facing our industry particularly in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster and opportunities in which we as engineers can advise government on policy to ensure things are improved. Personally I have been acting as adviser to Tim Rook the recent Technical Director at BESA with regards to fire strategy implementation from a mechanical services point of view and the difficulties we face within the construction industry with current culture of ‘corner cutting’ to achieve a faster return on investment.
